Welcome!
My name is Susan Intemann. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, as well as, a Board Certified Biofeedback Practitioner located in Raleigh, N.C. I have been in private practice since 2005 and have been practicing biofeedback since 1994. At present I also contract with the Department of Defense as a Military Family Life Consultant.
I hold a masters degree from NCSU with an emphasis in Health Behaviors/Health Education.
My strong desire to become a licensed professional counselor led me back to NCSU, where I pursued graduate studies in counseling. I am also a graduate of the UNC Mindfulness-Based Program for Stress and Pain Management. After many years of practicing T’ai Chi, I became an accredited instructor in 1995.
I actually began my counseling career in the late 70’s, employed by The Department of Social Services, in New York as a Child Protective Caseworker. I moved to the Raleigh area in the mid 80’s and was employed by the Department of Environment Health and Natural Resources. I held several positions including Employee Safety and Health Officer and The Disaster Response/Recovery Officer for NC State Parks and Recreation. Concurrent with my graduate studies in counseling I worked as a treatment coordinator for a Chronic Pain Clinic, and also in an outpatient physical therapy facility as a biofeedback practitioner. In the mid 90’s I joined the American Red Cross as a volunteer. For a number of years I was the the Disaster Response Coordinator for the Disaster Action Team, American Red Cross, Triangle Chapter. As a result, I am extensively trained in disaster response and recovery to include Critical Incident Stress Management.
I am past president of the NC Biofeedback Society and served as a consultant to the Education Section of the Association for Applied Psycho-physiology and Biofeedback. I continue to be very active with The American Academy of Pain Management and The Licensed Professional Counselors Association of North Carolina.
Drawing upon a rich background of training and experience I will approach your individual problems with perspective and insight. My approach as a therapist is warm, interactive, deeply attentive and geared toward understanding and discovering new ideas and finding solutions. Identifying and building on each client’s strength’s and engaging in a collaborative process to address individual needs and goals is a very important part of our therapeutic process.
My faithful companion, Jesse, is a eight year old Australian Shepherd. Jesse is trained as a Pet Partner, through Delta Society and has been coming to work with me for years. He is gentle and kind, and most of all, loves people.
