Why Therapy?

There are many reasons why you might want to talk to a counselor about your problems. People typically see a counselor as they want to discuss their problems with someone who is unbiased and impartial.
Going to therapy means that you are acknowledging that there is a problem in your life that you want to deal with rather than letting it get worse. It takes courage to talk to a therapist, but your experience in therapy can help you:
- Feel Better
- Change behaviors that don’t serve you well
- Understand old patterns and responses
- Encounter your own needs, goals and strengths
Pain – whether emotional, mental, or physical – has a message for us. Once we understand that message, we can learn to minimize and manage our pain.
My Therapeutic Approach
“Patients want to be seen and treated as a whole person not as a disease.
A whole person is someone whose being has physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions. Ignoring any of these aspects of humanity leaves the person incomplete and may even interfere with healing.”—-Harold Koenig
I provide a confidential, caring and non-judgmental environment for you. Helping you understand, evaluate and neutralize the emotional baggage that brought you to your present situation is an important part of our therapeutic process. With this knowledge you can be free to live the kind of life that you choose. Knowledge is the power needed to make changes in your life. I am committed to helping you use what you learn in our sessions and apply this knowledge to your every day life.
Each person is uniquely individual. I will help you address your problems with a variety of approaches depending on your individual needs. My interaction with you will be informal. I am committed to treating you with dignity, respect and compassion. Unique to my practice is my focus on mind-body interactions, while utilizing such techniques as mindfulness and biofeedback, thus making my approach very much bio-psychosocial.
Always keep in mind that you and I are engaged in a collaborative process. I have an excellent network of associates and medical professionals that I may suggest that you consult with – if we mutually agree that they can contribute to an evaluation or possibly a solution to your problem(s).
Though my area of specialty is helping to treat the multifaceted issues surrounding chronic pain/illness, I am experienced in treating a variety of problems:

Therapy can be short-term, a focus on a specific issue, or long-term, which would allow us to address more complex issues or allow time to work toward personal growth. Most individuals schedule a weekly session that lasts fifty-five minutes. If you are going through a particularly rough period of time we can certainly meet more than once a week or make arrangements for a longer session.
Choosing a therapist can be a daunting task. It is important to keep in mind: in order for therapy to be effective you and I must work as a team to understand and resolve your difficulties. The right match is extremely important. Therefore I offer a free telephone consult. I encourage you to contact me to make arrangements to discuss how I can best help you.
